개미의 定義(정의)는 개미과에 속하는 곤충의 총칭으로, 한자어로 의(蟻)가 표준어였고, 누의(螻蟻)·구(蚼)·현구(玄駒)·의양(蟻蛘) 등으로도 불리었으며, 우리말로는 가얌이·얌이라 하였다. 한반도에는 5아과 39속 139종이 분포한다.
